Dear Black Boys,

Dear Black Boys,

I write to you today with urgency and hope. As a member of our community, I see the potential and power within each of you. Yet, too often, I witness the stifling of your wings, the suppression of your dreams, and the loss of your potential. But I refuse to accept this as our fate.

Think of yourselves as birds waiting to take off. What happens if you never spread your wings? You remain grounded, unable to soar to your fullest potential. Our community cannot afford for you to stay grounded.

We must reclaim our power, both individually and collectively. It starts with embracing our strength, our empathy, and our respect for one another. We must be leaders, not just in ambition, but in action. Leadership isn't just about commanding others—it's about lifting them up, supporting them, and guiding them towards a better future.

But to be true leaders, we must also invest in ourselves. We must educate ourselves, hone our skills, and cultivate our talents. We must strive for excellence in everything we do, knowing that our success not only benefits us but uplifts our entire community.

Most importantly, we must put an end to the senseless violence tearing our community apart. We cannot continue to harm each other and expect progress. We must value each other's lives as much as we value our own.

So, I urge you, my brothers, to rise up. Spread your wings and soar. Believe in yourselves, in each other, and in the power of our community. Together, we can build a future where every Black boy has the opportunity to thrive.

The sky is not our limit—it is our beginning.

With unwavering hope,

Dwayne Aikens Jr. Executive Director

Castlemont High School Students Working with We Lead Ours Drug Education Coach Angus on Activism Day

In a remarkable display of initiative and community engagement, students from Castlemont High School's Community Health Equity Academy (CHEA) organized the We Lead Ours Drug Education Coach Angus Activism Day. This event, held with the aim of identifying practices and policies to advocate for positive change in the community, showcased the power of youth-led activism and collaboration with local partners.

The project, spearheaded by CHEA students, emphasized putting the reins of change in the hands of the youth. By partnering with various community stakeholders, the students delved into learning about different public health issues and brainstormed potential solutions to address these challenges.

Central to the event was the gathering of information by CHEA students on a range of topics pertinent to their community. Armed with knowledge, they crafted informative brochures designed to educate their peers within the school and beyond. This dissemination of information not only raised awareness but also empowered fellow youth to be informed advocates for change.

"This is activism at its finest," remarked one of the event organizers. "It's about the youth taking control of their learning and actively engaging in finding solutions to the problems we face in our community."

The We Lead Ours Drug Education Coach Angus Activism Day not only served as a platform for learning but also as a catalyst for action. By initiating conversations and sharing insights, the event aimed to build momentum for tangible change, both in the present and for the future.

As communities grapple with various societal issues, initiatives like these underscores the importance of empowering youth to be agents of change. Through education, collaboration, and activism, the students of Castlemont High School's CHEA exemplify the potential for positive transformation within their community.

In the words of the organizers, "We are not just the leaders of tomorrow; we are the leaders of today, ready to tackle the challenges and shape the future of our community."

We Lead Ours Spreads Love and Support on Valentines Day

We Lead Ours Spreads Love and Support on Valentines Day

We Lead Ours, a dedicated community organization, recently hosted a heartwarming event on Valentine's Day to spread love and positivity to the unhoused members of our community. The "Unhoused Candy Gram and Positive Affirmation Card" initiative proved to be a tremendous success, with the distribution of 120 candy grams to those in need.

The event was met with overwhelming gratitude from the recipients, who appreciated the thoughtful gesture during a time when they might feel overlooked or marginalized. It's moments like these that remind us of the power of compassion and connection.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers who generously donated their time and resources to make this event possible. Their dedication and kindness truly made a difference in the lives of those we serve.

As we continue through the year, let's carry the spirit of giving and empathy forward. We Lead Ours is committed to leading our community in the right direction, guided by compassion and solidarity.

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for the next unhoused event scheduled for the Saturday before Easter. We'll be distributing Hygiene Kit Easter Baskets, providing essential items and a touch of joy to those in need.
