We Lead & Love Our Community
In the midst of the challenges facing our neighborhoods, there's a rallying cry for community members to come together and make a positive impact. Now more than ever, it's the right time to be present in our community, to reconnect with the empathetic spirit that defines true community bonds.

Second Annual Winter Neighborhood Lunch
Remembering the days when neighbors knew each other, regardless of the toughness of the neighborhood, it felt like a genuine community. As we navigate the complexities of modern times, it's evident that we need to revive that sense of togetherness. Drawing inspiration from ancient African proverbs, "It takes a village to raise a child," we recognize the importance of collective responsibility.
The streets bear witness to challenges like crime and homelessness, reflecting generational social and economic trauma. In response to these issues, "We Lead Ours" is expanding its community initiatives. Moving beyond beautification cleanups, the organization now places emphasis on supporting populations and families facing food and housing insecurity.
Over the past two Christmases, small groups of volunteers gathered to package lunches for those experiencing homelessness. This year, "We Lead Ours" aims to elevate this program with bi-monthly events dedicated to supporting the homeless and families at risk of homelessness.
The focus for this initiative is encapsulated in one powerful word: Community. It serves as a reminder that to overcome the challenges that may seem daunting, a solid foundation must be built. This foundation starts with community love, kindness, and a departure from the negative influences propagated by mainstream news and social media.
Recognizing the limitations of relying solely on politicians, "We Lead Ours" encourages community members to get involved actively. The organization advocates for learning how to partner with politicians to guide them in creating effective policies that bring about positive change in our communities.
If you feel compelled to contribute and support the housing and housing-insecure community service projects, "We Lead Ours" invites you to register and be part of this transformative journey. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient community that thrives on unity and support.

Empowering Minds: Expanding Drug Prevention Services to Marin County
We are thrilled to share the exciting news of our partnership with the Marin County Department of Education to broaden our drug prevention services. After successfully implementing programs at San Jose Middle School and Davidson Middle School, we are excited to announce our upcoming initiatives at Venetia Valley K-8. Our dedicated educators made significant strides by conducting comprehensive drug education workshops across all seventh-grade classes at the middle schools. At We Lead Ours, our commitment to the mental health and wellness of young people has been unwavering since 2010. We have been proud to provide youth in Oakland with effective drug intervention and prevention services, and now, we are thrilled to extend our reach across the San Rafael Bridge. Expanding our program to Marin County is a significant milestone, and we are enthusiastic about the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of even more students. In collaboration with the Marin County Department of Education, we aim to empower young minds, instill pride, and contribute to the overall well-being of the community. Thank you for your continued support as we work together towards a healthier and drug-free future for our youth. | Davidson Middle School San Jose Middle School Davidson Middle School ESL Drug Education Workshop |
A Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Rally
Keeping The Dream Alive Corey, Dwayne, & Cornell | In the spirit of impactful leadership, we are thrilled to share a momentous occasion from our Executive Director, Mr. Aikens. This past Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Mr. Aikens had the honor of speaking in front of the longest-running Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Rally in Oakland. The event served as a powerful tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. King, bringing together the community to reflect on the values of equality, justice, and unity. Mr. Aikens eloquently addressed the audience, sharing insights on how We Lead Ours continues to embody these principles in its mission. His presence at the rally not only showcased our commitment to social change but also highlighted the importance of actively participating in events that commemorate the champions of civil rights. As we move forward, inspired by the words of Dr. King, we reaffirm our dedication to empowering our community and fostering positive change. We express our gratitude to Mr. Aikens for representing We Lead Ours at such a significant event and for embodying the spirit of leadership that continues to drive our organization forward. |
